WOOD

WOOD

Wood offers another dramatic touch of strength and beauty to our product lines. Each species of wood has different characteristics and appeal. Visual appeal of our wood products is drawn from the color, luster, texture and grain of the Mahogany and Obechee species we use- both native to our country and self-regenerating. Naturally occurring shades of cinnamon and almond illicit feelings of strength. When worn or used to adorn interior spaces, there is a sense of protection of age-old tradition.

We responsibly purchase species that are self-regenerative. No parts are discarded, even the smallest are used to craft exquisite jewelry and tableware items. The wood and coconut pieces are cut, carved, and sanded until the desired shape is achieved. Our tableware is finished with water-based products that are safe for daily use. Do not let sit in water, not dishwasher safe, wipe dry after cleaning with dishwasher liquid and simply oil boards, bowls and spoons once in a while with almond, coconut or olive oil.

HORN

HORN

We are proud to offer a plethora of exquisitely handcrafted necklaces, earrings, bracelets and, home decor items that are created with ethically sourced cow horns— a byproduct of the Haitian food industry. Natural horn products are distinct; each piece has its own unique combination of various shades of milk, honey, caramel, and charcoal tones. No two pieces have the exact same colors or pattern

Our horn is responsibly collected in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince and in the Artibonite and Central Plateau Department. Our horn generates employment. Individuals are paid to collect a  would have been discarded. In 2019 Atelier Calla upcycled 5,000 cows and bullhorns into one-of-a-kind objects/conversation pieces that attracted many customers. The process to transform the horn itself uses heat to turn these horn pieces into shapable plates. Once formed, the horn gets its shine through the process of polishing with non-toxic hypoallergenic products, free of harsh chemicals such as ethanol, sealant, or primer.

BONE

BONE

The earliest jewelry was believed to have been made from naturally available materials like animal teeth and bone. On the island of AYITI the Taino Indians had the same tradition as earlier cultures. Atelier Calla’s bone jewelry is hand crafted by skilled, experienced craftsmen using the latest equipment to bring a touch of modernity to this rustic yet elegant material.

A simple eco- friendly carving process is used to create our unique pieces. Creamy whites and beige shades, reminiscent of ivory, lend themselves to edgy designs. The bone is boiled to kill all bacteria then cut and sanded until the desired shape is obtained. All our bone creations are polished with non-toxic and hypoallergenic products free of harsh chemicals such as ethanol, sealant, or primer. Store your jewelry in a protective pouch away from the sun and avoid contact with water and perfumes.
